GatorCPR and HeartSafe City Foundation award two AEDs

Gainesville, Florida – August 13, 2014 – HeartSafe City Foundation awarded two Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) to two local non-project organizations: 1.) Arc of Alachua County, an organization focused on providing services and opportunities to people with disabilities that promote independence and 2.) Marion County Literacy Council, a non-profit organization to improve adult literacy and life skills in Marion County.

The HeartSafe City Foundation’s AED Grant Program awards winners with a Philips HeartStart Onsite AED, and training to three individuals who will have daily access to the AED. HeartSafe City Foundation’s vision is to increase awareness of survival rates from sudden cardiac arrest, to offer free or discounted CPR training, to teach how to use an AED, and to further increase the number of AEDs throughout the community.

“Our AED Grant Program demonstrates our efforts to increase the number of AEDs throughout the community, not only in Gainesville and Ocala, but also in the surrounding areas,” said Mr. Clay Gibbons, one of HeartSafe City Foundation’s founders. “We just want to provide the necessary means to save people’s lives, through free CPR training, in case of sudden cardiac arrest.”

“The nationwide survival rate from sudden cardiac arrest is 9.5%, while the survival rate of Gainesville alone is 21%,” says Mr. Gibbons. “Our goal right now is to keep increasing our survival rate to that of Seattle, 56%, and reach out to other organizations to host events in order to spread free CPR training.”

HeartSafe City Foundation keeps striving to educate individuals in CPR and AED training. They provide Lunch and Learn CPR events open to the public, CPR in the Classroom, Family and Friends CPR training, as well as many other joint events with GatorSavers at UF, and GatorCPR.
